Opening Statement – June 15th 2021

As you may be aware the Government made the decision on Monday 14th June to delay the dropping of social distancing legislation for a further four weeks. The current proposed date for this is the 19th July 2021. Shoalstone Seawater Pool cannot open as we do normally until this legislation is removed. As a sporting venue we are required to:-

limit numbers in the pool and pool areas (via booking/queuing system)
enforce the 1m+ social distancing requirement
apply a strict cleaning regime to changing rooms and shared areas

Our pool is free to use without any form of booking system. After an intensive risk assessment exercise we’ve concluded that we do not have the infrastructure nor resources to implement these measures.

Regretfully we now cannot open as planned on the 21st June. The pool must remain closed and we ask you to keep out as our insurance and HSE policies require.

This is a huge blow to our management team and volunteers. We have fought tirelessly to complete pool repairs, recruit lifeguards and make the pool area ready for opening. An opening event for the 26th June had been planned and arrangements were underway.

But we’re not beaten yet! Our work will continue with an eye on a new opening date of the 19th July 2021. If we can open earlier then we will. Whilst the pool will remain closed until restrictions are lifted our work will continue on cleaning, refurbishment and lifeguard training.

We thank you all for your patience, understanding and support. In the meantime you may be interested to know that we’ve created a new line of Shoalstone Seawater Pool merchandise that is ready to buy now. Every purchase helps us sustain the pool.
